The concept of classical discourse has been around since the Socratic method and the ancient Greeks. In the modern tradition, debate in a formalized format usually exists in two places: academic competition (which is where the founders were introduced to the concepts of Lincoln-Douglas style academic debate and policy debate) and political debates. In the modern climate of social media and the bifurcation of culture that's inevitable from terminally online life, we seek to create an environment where users are exposed to multiple sides of an issue with equal time and attention paid to all sides of an issue.
We KNOW we aren't alone in this thought. We talk to users, friends, and acquaintainces who have told us all the same thing: Social Media in its current form is emotionally draining, heavily biased, and lacks the appropriate nuance to truly present an argument effectively. The popular short form social media networks are NOT going to change, because there is no incentive to do so. These platforms are completely focused on user engagement at the detriment of discussion quality.
Freebate changes this by separating the plane of observation from the plane of conversation.
We're a small, distributed team based all across the United States, with headquarters in Asheville, NC.
Let's get to know each other, and let discourse win the day.
